"How to put a pinch collar on a dog? Well, as a positive reinforcement trainer, I will strongly encourage you to consider some of the fabulous tools that America, that the human ingenuity have come up with that really ain't quite pinch collar. Pinch collar is based on using something that is uncomfortable for the dog which is spikes in the neck that can pinch in the skin when the dog puts pressure on the leash. We have watched dogs and come with some great mechanical innovations I'd like to introduce to you in lieu of using a pinch collar. Two of these are the Sensible Sensation Harness which is based on redirecting the dog to you and the Easy Walk Gentle Lear Harness; both use the same principles. You have some other great solutions like the Gentle Leader Head Halter which works on the same principle of a horse where as you control the head of the dog you control the dog and that is probably the most powerful control on the market today; much more powerful than a pinch collar. So, these harnesses work extremely well and dogs don't seem to find them uncomfortable. So, it's a, a kind of thing like a pinch collar, you can put it right on your dog with no training and have a much more pleasurable walk without hurting the dog in any way. Again, this works mechanically; it doesn't work on discomfort. The Easy Walk Harness is very easy to apply; it has a different color chest track; you disconnect that. Put this over the head and you snap behind the front legs. The innovation to this and one of the most remarkable things about it is that we figured out that if the leash attaches in the front when the dog pulls forward on a walk, they're going to be redirected to us. In addition, there's a little slip here that draws the shoulders together slightly and changes the dog' balance so that it's easier to control them; so that when you're walking if the dog pulls they're automatically redirected back to you, putting you in a perfect position to reinforce them for appropriate walking."
