"How to prepare your dog for a new home. From time to time we all move and believe it or not it's a fairly stressful event not just for us but for our dogs as well. It's important perhaps that when you go and check out the new home, before you start moving in, then you take your dog, let your dog get used to the setting, let them see how everything is. And then consider that many dogs anticipate something happening when they see signs and so one of the major signs obviously that your about to leave would be if you start packing up. Recently one of my customers was moving in to a new home and had starting packing in to boxes and they decided just to go ahead and send their dog away for a weekend at night care, get a chance to play with all their friends as they are used to doing while they are on vacation and then come back and go directly in to the new home where everything is already moved in and fairly prepared. And that seemed to work fairly well. Another consideration is when you're having a lot of people working on your house and there's a lot of chaos maybe getting your dog out of that environment as well. So that when they come back it's a calmer environment and you're able to spend some time with your dog, helping them acclimate, bringing all of their favorite things there, their bed, their crate, their food bowls and feeding them a healthy meal if you're able to do that in between the move so that they start adjusting to the new location, may also be helpful."
