"Hi I'm Eric with the World of Wet Pets Tropical Fish in Portland, Oregon and I'm here to talk to you about removing iron from aquarium water. Most water sources, tap water sources will have some trace of iron in it. So it's a good idea to use something like the iron test kits to find out exactly how much we're dealing with. In most situations we can use a water conditioner that will detoxify heavy metals such as iron. And in many cases we can use, in our filters, resins that will absorb iron directly out of the water. The best way to go about not having iron in your aquariums is to use source water that will not have iron. And that can be done with things like the tap water filters, de-ionization filters or in many cases our O-filters. So if your source water is going through a reverse osmosis unit you generally will have very, very low to no iron in it and that's the best source water you can use."
