Steps to Become an Actress

"Hi my name is Elena Maria Garcia and I'm with Blue Dog acting school for kids in Miami, Florida. Now lets talk about the steps you need to become an actress. And first of all training. Training is very important. I always say would you like a doctor to examine you that really hasn't been trained. The same thing with an actor. It is a profession, it is a career. And we must be trained. Now if you were interested in film, and or theater, you must have a very strong resume then that is a nice little like calling card with all of your experience on it. And you can't get experience unless you get training. It's like hand and hand. There are many workshops, there are classes private schools, and there is of course college and university if that is really what you want to do. You want to get yourself an agent also. An agent that is part of the union which is legit. You don't want a fly by night that pretty much takes your money which by the way you don't pay an agent any money, no no no. Run away. You want an agent that's legit and is going to represent you. You have to be very clear with that and again they are going to look at your resume, see what your experience is and see if they are willing to invest their time in you. You also need a head shot, a good head shot. Do your homework. You only get ripped off if you do not do your homework. You really, really need to do it. You need to check these people out, check out your agents, check out your photographer and check out the schools that you want to be trained in and realize that you will be sacrificing your entire life for something that you love and you really have to love it. In order to be successful. So in order to be, in order to be a good actor, you must be trained, and have the tools in order to be successful. Nowadays we refer to an actress as an actor both male and female are refer to as an actor. So when you hear someone say well I'm an actor and they are a female, that is correct. It's like a doctor, you don't say I'm a doctress."
