Step 1
Begin by calling your cat either by name or by shaking the container of treats.
-
Step 2
When your cat arrives, say "SIT" in a stern, semi-loud voice. The tone of your voice should remain constant throughout this process.
-
Step 3
He most likely will not sit. So you will need to begin by forcing him to sit by slightly pushing down on his behind. The entire time you should continue to say "SIT". The cat will begin to relate sitting to the word and tone of your voice.
-
Step 4
When he sits, even if it is forced, say positive encouraging words, such as "Good Kitty" in a sweeter, higher voice and pet him on the head.
-
Step 5
After providing postive encouragement reward your cat with a few treats.
-
Step 6
Repeat these steps each and every time you give your cat treats. Soon he will begin to sit on his own without you having to force him to sit.
