Step 1
First, gauge your distance from your board holder. Make sure that you can reach the board comfortably and that you are not too far or too close. Adjust the board holder if you need to.

Step 2
Next, get into sparring stance, feet no more than shoulder width apart. Keep your hands up and take a deep breath to relax. Remember, breaking is as much physical as it is mental. Once you get past the mental block, breaking will be easier and easier.

Step 3
Perform "mock kick" without any power to make sure that the board is in the correct position. Once you feel that you are ready to kick take a deep breath.

Step 4
Master Richard and Galit GordonLet your board holder know that you are ready to break the board. Yell loudly to gain energy and strength, and perform your front kick, making sure that you use the ball of your foot. This is the area beneath your toes. Make sure that you do not kick with your toes or else you can seriously injure your foot and even break your toes.
