"Hi, my name is Victoria Calvin with Splish-n-Splash Mobile Pet Spa in Miami, Florida. Let's talk about what you can put on your dog for dry skin. A commonly used ingredient is going to be aloe. If you get an aloe oat bath shampoo, that's going to help alleviate dry skin dramatically. Also, using a medicated shampoo for more severe cases will not only help treat the dryness of your dog's coat, it will also help any itching that might be related to the dry skin. Such as... this is a good example of a medicated shampoo. It's what we use in our shop. It's a Spree Tea Tree and Lactate shampoo. This does wonders in restoring the elasticity to your dog's coat as well as hydrating their skin. You can follow this up with the matching conditioner or with any conditioner of your choice because that one doesn't really smell the best. So if you would like to use your own conditioner, that's fine, even people conditioner will work such as Suave or Tresemme. Also, you can follow up with a hot oil treatment. This will help retain the moisture in your dog's coat and will help alleviate any dry skin issues that he might be having. We have sprays that can be used after the bath is complete and your dog is thoroughly dry such as an anti-itch spray. Anything that says anti-itch is going to be treating your dog's dry skin issue. Also a leave-in conditioner that's meant just to soften the hair will also work to hydrate your dog's skin. It's very important to make that sure your dog's dry skin is not being caused by his diet, which is the number one reason why dogs get dry skin. Make sure you get your dog checked our by a vet to see if there's anything more you can do to help your dog from the inside out."
