"Let's talk about how to stop a dog's ear odor. There are a lots of reasons that odor can be coming from ears. Wax build up actually causes just kind of a mild odor but the more wax that builds up that can lead to problems and so always check with your veterinary clinic and get a diagnosis first if there is ear odor in your pet. The primary reason that we see significant odor in dog ears would be yeast infections and/or bacterial infections and so those are medical things that need to be taken care of first. Wax build up like I said if there's enough of it can lead to retaining moisture and causing yeast and bacterial infections as well. So, keeping your dog's ears clean is the first or the first thing to do to prevent an ear odor in the first place so talking to your clinic and using cleansers that are approved for the ears and also just keeping those ears dry is very very important. Hair build up is a big problem in dogs especially certain breeds like poodles and so having those the hair plucked out of the ears is a great preventative step. Also, using ear powders to keep the ear dry and also again getting them checked periodically making sure that there's no infection in there. So, if there is an odor just probably an infection and so using cleansers to clean those ears and also approved creams or ointments or drops that are used to treat infection himself."
