Hello I'm Dr. Christine Portfors. I'm an associate professor in the school of biological sciences at Washington State University Vancouver. And today we're here to talk about how much does a brown bat weigh. Well first of all there's two types of brown bats. There's a little brown bat and there's a big brown bat. Now those names are a little bit misused because big is not really big, so a big brown bat weighs about 18 to 20 grams which is about three quarters of an ounce. And it's body in terms of size is only about this big. And then when you put the wings in it's about this big and that's the big brown bat. The little brown bat obviously is smaller, it weighs about a third of an ounce, about 7 or so grams and that bat is oh it's body size is only about that big. So the two different types of brown bats, the little brown bat and the big brown bat, they're both of them are still only under an ounce. So very small and very lightweight.
