"If you're training for a triathlon you should expect a minimum of four hours per week of training. That's a good minimum amount for a beginner or someone who's new to the sport. At the extreme or the advanced level, someone who wants to do an iron man triathlon or who wants to be very competitive may train 20 to 25 hours per week or even more. Now if you're preparing for your first triathlon you should give yourself a good 2 to 3 months to get ready for it, of regular training. However people who are in the lifestyle of a triathlon and who want to reach their very best level, they'll train year round. Or at least for a good 1/2 to 3/4 of the year to really focus on the triathlon season. So it really amounts to how ever much time you have and you want to commit to the sport. It's kind of a good idea to take your whole life balance into account. If you have a family and a job and other commitments it's not necessary to allow a triathlon to take over your whole life. Train with the time that you have and if you want to get good you'll have to free up some extra time to be your best."
