"Identifying the gender of a saltwater fish is sometimes a moot point because some fish show no sexual dimorphism. The male and female look exactly the same but in this case these blue devils are, it is fairly easy to tell the male from the female. The male has a longer body and blue extends into the tail and it has the yellow throat. The female is a solid blue with a clear tail and they kind of get along together. They sometimes show spawning rituals with some color changes so it is nice to have a pair although as a pair they are kind of aggressive and are keeping their tank mate from coming out and enjoying the tank. If you really want to get in depth nothing beats having a good handbook for marine fish and this is probably one of the best ones out there. It is a reasonably priced book by Scott Michaels and he identifies fish, talks about their suitability in a fish tank and will also help you identify the sex of the fish and as you can see it's a well worn copy, very handy to have around."
