Where Do Fleas Originate?

"Hi friends! I'm Mark Govan with ABC Pest Control in Largo, Florida. Today's question is, where do fleas originate? You know, a lot of people have flea problems that are inside the home but where do these things start up from? Well, if you have a wild animal outside your home maybe a possum or a raccoon or even a dog or a cat, maybe a neighbor has a dog or a cat. Fleas are usually attracted to this wildlife and they can bring these fleas and the flea eggs into your yard. Now, once you have them in your yard, remember, you can pick them up as well and bring those fleas inside the house, of course, then they can attack your pets as well as yourself as these fleas start to multiply. Anytime that you're outside of your yard though, look for fleas in the flower bed areas, shady areas. A lot of us have pets and they have certain runs that the pet will do on a regular basis, that's where the fleas are mainly attracted to because they know that pets are going to come by there so they're going to lay and wait and they're going to actually wait for the pet to run by and then they're going to jump at in the pet. That can help bring more fleas into your home as well. A lot of pest control companies when we come out to treat your lawn area for fleas, we're going to really key in in those areas that are underneath the shrubbery areas, maybe a cross base onto the house or maybe your pet might lay down to get out of the hot weather or inside the house where the pet bedding is and that areas where the pet may jump off a bed or a couch unto the floor and shake loose a lot of those flea eggs.
