"Hello I'm Dr. Brad Cohen, an orthopedic surgeon with Aventura Orthopedics and Sports Medicine here in Aventura, Florida. Let's talk a little bit about different types of knee replacement surgeries. The standard type of knee replacement surgery replaces all three of the components of the knee which include the medial, lateral and the telefemoral compartments. A standard knee replacement surgery replaces all of the components during the surgery. Other types of surgeries include uni compartmental knee replacement surgeries where either the medial or lateral compartment is replacement or telefemoral replacement. Other types of surgeries include gender specific knee replacement surgeries where the components are made differently for men and for women. Other types include minimally invasive surgeries where the surgeries are performed through smaller than standard surgical incisions. Finally computer assisted knee replacement surgeries use a computer to help guide the surgeon to make the cuts for surgeries. In summary there are several types of knee replacement surgeries and your surgeon can help you decide which is best for you."
