"Hello! My name is James Manuele. I'm a guitarist and instructor here at Clark College in Vancouver, Washington and I'm here to discuss on how to help kids read music. I highly recommend for the younger kids to learn how to read notes and music before they start an instrument. The best instrument to learn on would be the keyboard. It is a foundation instrument and from there it's much easier to comprehend notes and read them on the keyboard and there are many different types of programs that are available locally in community such as summer, summer camps or music stories, kinder music and as well as the public schools that offer free programs of course starting them at a very young age with a recorder. As they continue with their music studies they get into a band or even choir with higher education studying music. As a instructor at the college level, I have many students that say they wish they have started years ago to learn how read notes and understand music. So, many of my guitar 1 classes I teach them the basic music skills and learn how to read notes on the guitar. The earlier you start the better."
