Hi, this is Doctor Loretta Ciraldo from doctorloretta.com, board certified dermatologist and author of Six Weeks to Sensational Skin. Let's talk about overnight acne treatments. And I do have to tell you that this is a very good thing to consider. An overnight acne treatment, which is typically based on salicylic acid, sometimes with some sulfur mixed in, is a wonderful way to actually apply, typically with a clean Q-tip. You'll apply the solution to the acne spot, sleep overnight, and wake up in the morning, typically, with a great resolution or a great clearing of that acne product. Now, what you do have to remember if you go and choose an overnight product is that you want to have a waiting period from the time that you apply the solution to your face until your face hits the pillowcase. It's ideal to wait at least fifteen to twenty minutes. The reason being that if you were to put that on the moment before you go to bed, you'd be applying a good, generous amount of the lotion to your face, then you'd be putting your face on the pillowcase, and practically speaking, there's a very good chance in doing that, that more of the solution would get onto your pillowcase than get to get into your skin. So, if you want to use the overnight acne treatments, which, as I said are best if they contain salicylic acid, often two percent salicylic acid, sometimes with some sulfur in it, sometimes witch hazel, to please do that on your acne regions. With best results you'll do it the moment, the day or night that you discover a new acne lesion. Sometimes, if you feel something coming on, if you can apply that overnight acne treatment before it's even visible to the eye, I have seen many cases where the acne will not even come out. So I'm a firm believer in them. Just apply them well in advance of putting your head to the pillowcase and best of luck to you.
