"Hi, this is Dr. Loretta Ciraldo from drloretta.com, board-certified dermatologist and author of 'Six Weeks to Sensational Skin". Let's talk about home remedies for dry splitting skin. Now, I think that many of us suffer from dry skin especially during the winter months. But if that skin becomes so dry that it actually starts to split or you start to see little cracks in it, then this is time for you to really be very proactive and try to remedy the problem. Some people are surprised when I tell them that the best remedy for dry skin is to soak that area of your skin in tepid water. Actually stay in, for instance you can just go into a shower of tepid water, and stay until your fingertips get all wrinkled up almost like a prune. When that happens, it means that you've so greatly increased the surface area of your skin because you've put so much water back into it. So you stay in the tepid water 'til you get wrinkled up like that. You come out. You very lightly, just ever so easily pat dry. And then onto your damp skin, I want you to put a water trapping product. Some of the best working ones on the market are Cerave. Cerave comes in a cream which will trap in the water. Aquaphor is another good one, Ucerine... But it on to your damp skin. If need be do this twice a day for the first five days and you may just get rid of your dry cracking skin."
