Basically the, the answer to the question is that he first has to want to stop drinking. You can't make him stop drinking; they have to want to do it. And the way they get there is by experiencing the consequences of their, of their drinking and they have to realize that denial has to break, and they have to realize that alcohol is damaging them in many ways. Their body, their job, their marriage, their family. So they have to come to that realization and then they have to decide that they want to stop. Now, then the problem becomes sometimes when somebody's drinking heavily they may need to be detoxified because if you stop all of a sudden they can go into a life threatening withdraw or seizures so that the first thing is to do acute detoxification. You may need to go to the Doctor and maybe get some medication or maybe even be hospitalized. The second thing is that the person needs to get help. The have to realize they have lost control over their drinking and they cannot do it alone."
