"Hi my name is Chris Dupre, and I'm an electric guitar instructor. In this segment we are going to be talking about strumming the guitar faster. A couple of ways you can improve that is to work on your upstroke. Typically people think that when you are playing guitar the natural instinct is to play with down strokes. And short strumming can be done like that, but to improve the speed of the strumming you want to be as strong on your upstroke. Now the techniques to work on that is just simply playing holding a chord and going down and up, down and up. Now to work on getting it faster you want to get your forearm and your wrist to kind of flow together. With you forearm balancing on the body of the guitar. And notice a lot of that was me working the upstroke and accenting with that. That is a good exercise to get the upstroke going a little better, and in turn overall improving the speed of the strum pattern. That is just a little about improving the speed of your strumming."
