"Spironolactone use in cats is just basically used as an alternative to what we call phamarcamide, which is a diuretic. Diuretics are sometimes used for cats, or are used for cats, if they have heart disease or other problems where they need to get rid of a lot of water. And this particular drug--spironolactone--is used as an alternative to lasiks, or pharmarcamide. I personally don't use it very often because most of the time it doesn't seem to have the same necessity that other people might find as far as helping out with other sources. The reasons why the lasiks might be compromised or have other side effects that you would rather use the spironolactone. But, again, it's used mainly for either lowering high blood pressure or heart disease or getting rid of lots of water as far as acting as a diuretic."
