"Hello. My name is Dr. Robert Hernandez. I'm a psychologist in Miami, Florida, and I'm president and owner of Lafafalu Retreat House. You're probably wondering: what are some tips to help me sleep? I can't sleep well and I need to sleep. One of the first things that could help you is to get into a state of relaxation. I recommend to my patients to do either a visualization technique, or to do meditative techniques. Meditative techniques would be to either focus on their breathing with their eyes closed, or--if you're the type of person that you only can meditate with your eyes open--focus on a single object, like maybe lighting a candle, and just focusing. After you've achieved a lower level of brainwaves, an alpha or theta, that will help you feel overall relaxation and get you in the mood to sleep. The other thing, of course, is to make sure you're exercising, and make sure you're not eating right before bedtime. That also tends to effect the quality of your sleep. And if those tips don't work for you, then once again, see your general practitioner for other recommendations."
