"Hello, my name is Dr. Robert Hernandez. I'm a psychologist in Miami, Florida, and I'm president and owner of La Fafalla Retreat House. Overcoming sleeplessness is a concern to many people. There are different things that one could do. Of course, the one that commonly comes to our minds is drugs -- I need to take a pill to go to sleep. But actually, the studies do indicate that there's several cognitive behavioral techniques that actually helps a person to achieve a sense of sleeplessness or a sleepfulness, I should say. One of the things is relaxations techniques. I constantly encourage my patients to meditate or to get on the practice of being meditative. What this does -- it lowers the frequencies in the brain waves, helping the person to feel overall sense of peace and calm, and that helps them to bring upon sleepfulness. The other thing a person can do is change their thoughts around sleep. Some people feel that if they sleep eight hours, that they're lazy -- they don't get things accomplished. So with proper cognitive behavioral techniques and relaxation techniques, you can achieve better sense of sleepfulness."
