"Hi! I'm Angela. I swim for Eagle Aquatic Team in Salt Lake City. I also swim for high school. High school swimming is scored in a very simple way. Each team enters a certain amount of swimmers in each event and then after they swim, they are placed fastest to slowest, and then they are assigned, they are awarded certain points for each for how fast they swim. For example, first place will get twenty points and second place will get sixteen points and so on, down to about sixth place will get one point or so. And those are those points are given towards their team and at the end of the meet they add up how many points each team got and the team with the highest points wins the meet. Relays is another event in the meets and they are worth about twice as much as individuals so it's very important to have a strong relay and also have enough swimmers in each event to score an adequate amount of points. Depending on how many swimmers are at the meet and how big the meet it is, that's how they decide how many points are awarded for each event. If there's a tie then they will tell you, for example, if it's between first, if there's a tie for first place they'll take twenty points and sixteen points and find the average so both swimmers are each awarded eighteen points so sometimes teams can get half points."
