"Hi! I'm Kevin Russell, I'm a volleyball coach here in South Beach Florida. Let's talk a little bit about the history in volleyball. William Morgan did invent volleyball in 1895 and it was an indoor sport. It went to college a few years after that. The first official game in college was played in 1901 and in 1928 the USVBA was created which is United States Volleyball Association which is now called the USAV, they just basically drop the B out of it which is now USA Volleyball. In 1947, the FIVB was created which is the Federal International Volleyball Association. They generally make all the rules for us now. We kind of follow them. USA used to be the forefront in making all the rules but we kind of switch over to international. For the fact that they run the Olympics, Pan-America games, all those kind of things. And in 1983, just like behind me, beach volleyball was created as a professional sport. It went to two-men teams. It was owned by the players and they just, they like to have something and it draw a lot of crowd. The indoor sport was losing a lot of interest in crowds so they kind of evolve to make things happen. Indoor is now becoming more popular again within schools, there's mens of women's teams. Basically, every college has a volleyball team, if you go to high school, junior high, you just can't escape the volleyball world. It is really really made its way from 1895 being as many players as you wanted to now being very very organized and lots of rules to keep you on your toes. That's just a little bit about the history of volleyball."
