"Hi, I'm Gary Wilson, at America's Teaching Zoo at Moorpark College. I'm a zoologist. I became a zoologist because I was fascinated by animals. I always wanted to work with animals, and I learned that there's more ways than just being a veterinarian to work with animals. I actually took a path of working with animals hands on, and I wanted to train animals, and so I learned how to train dolphins, and I did that for the navy. And then I went back to school, because I wanted to learn more about animals, and I did research on birds. I was interested in the behavior of birds, and this is something that zoologists do is look at the behavior of the animals and how the animals live in their environment. What are the things that they do that have adapted them to be successful in the environment they live in? So, zoologists are unlocking the secrets of the animal kingdom and helping us understand how animals survive in the wild, and how important those animals are to the functioning of the ecosystem, so that we can make good decisions about caring for those animals and preserving them for the future."
