Hi this is Zephyr Clarke-Dolberg with Miami dog training in Miami, Florida. Well some of the problems that people do run across with potty training usually the biggest one we hear is that the dog barks and you know and throws a fit in the crate. And the worst thing that you can do for this dog is open the crate. You know because right there you are giving your power, you are giving your sense of alpha, you are giving your leadership away. Because they put up a fuss. When in fact the best thing you can do is leave that dog in the crate you know take them out only to go to the bathroom, get them really used to that crate. Feed them in that crate, give them a sense of positive associations with that crate. And again it's a den instinct. So some of the problems you do have is if the dog is barking, well a great solution is to the barking is a water spray bottle. A water bottle put on stream, spray it into the eyes and nose area. They typically don't like it of course you have your water dogs that love it. So that's something you want to stay away from with them. You know you may just leave the leash on and give them a correction to the cage or get a no bark collar or an e collar. Some of the other problems though that you might have are if the cage is too big, if the crate is too big, and the puppy is too small, or the dog is small, they can go to the bathroom on one side and go and sleep on the other. So what you want to do is either get a large crate with a divider or a small crate and just increase the sizes as they grow. And with doing that you are controlling the amount of space they have and they are going to control their bowels and their bladder a lot better.
