"Hi this is Zephyr Clarke-Dolberg with Miami dog training in Miami, Florida. Well when we are talking about crate training you know there's definitely pros and cons. And some of the pros are that, number one you have great peace of mind you know, knowing where your dog is all the time, controlling their environment especially you know some times with dominant dogs you really need to really control their environment, their territory and their space all the time. And really let them know you know that you are in charge but, and that crate partially that crate helps us keep them under our control so, and they know it. Also one of the good things about a crate is that dogs are den animals so being that they are den animals, you know it's a natural instinct for them to want to be in a closed in space. Some of the cons, would be that your dog would not be at your side all the time. But unless the dog or if especially if it's a puppy, it's going to be supervised by you and kept in the same room with you again that's the best thing you can do is put it in the crate. Another con might be that they are not getting as much exercise, well that's not a real problem as long as you are taking them for daily walks. You know I mean you might feel like well I want to keep the dog out in the backyard, they can run around, they can stretch, that's not a problem if the dog is not being destructive and that sort of thing. So also with the crates some of the pros is, is that not only can we control their environment but we can limit the amount of space they have. So for one the dogs the more they move around, the more their metabolism is stimulated so by controlling their movement we are also controlling their metabolism. So we can really get a handle on when they are going to the bathroom, when we let them out and that sort of thing."
