How to Play Second Base in Fast-Pitch Softball

"Hi, I'm Jean Silva from New York City and I'm the Commissioner of the New York Women Sports League. Let's go play some ball. Let's talk a little bit about playing second base in Fast Pitch Softball. Traditionally, you want that second base person; male or female; to be very adrenal, very loose. They can flow, they can move, they can run, they can, they can, they can jump and plus, they have to have the head on their shoulders. And what I mean by that is, a second base or any player, when they were in the drag out they kind of think of what's going on when my play my position. When they walk out on that field they have to be saying, "Give me the ball, I want it. Hit it to me." And if they don't, you have to have your mind preset that wherever that ball is, you're going to beat it. But not only getting it, you also know maybe how to receive it and throw it onto another base because he's a base runner or you're cornered on a bounce or whatever the case maybe. Maybe the pitcher try to grab it and it hit their glove and it bounce off and you want and got it; now you have to throw it as best as you can. That's why they call this game Fast Pitch Softball. The keyword is fast. You got to be quick, quick. You got to be adrenal; you got to be fluid. You have to know to know to play games and you have to be prepared on field as well as off-field. Your head is ninety percent of the game. Your head only tells your extremities what to do, but it's up to you to know what to do and what to tell yourself. So have fun, get out there, throw the ball around and just keep throwing, just keep throwing it because the name of this game is Fast Pitch and by throwing it you will make yourself best and you'll have fun at it and you'll get accurate and that's the only way to improve the game is to go and play it and throw that ball. So go and have some fun with it and enjoy it."
