"Aloha, my name is Nalani, and we are here at the Mai Kai Restaurant in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. In this clip we are going to show you how to make a silk lei. There are many different kinds of leis, there are Tahitian ginger leis, and leis for boys. But in this case we are going to make a silk lei. A silk lei is a little different from a regular flower lei, and the difference is that they are made out of silk. Let's show you the supplies that are needed to make our silk lei. First of all we have our string, then the scissors to cut the string with, and our lei needle. Then we have our silk leaves and our silk flowers. So let's start to make our silk lei. First we are going to get our needle and string it, okay and when you string your lei you pull it all the way out across your chest to make sure your lei is long enough to go around your neck. We double the string, cut it at the end, and now you are ready to string your flowers. I start with a leaf, and they already have a stem on them so you just go right through the stem to the end. Don't pull your flower all the way to end of the string or it will come off. So you want to leave a decent amount of string at the end so you can use it to tie it when you are done. Then we put a flower on it, and you go right through there again, up through the middle, till you connect with your leaf. Then we do another leaf all the way to your flower, make sure the stem goes into the flower so that it is not show when your lei is finished. Then we are going to pick another flower, right through the middle into your leaf. After you have strung all your silk flowers together you have this beautiful silk flower lei. This is Nalani from the Mai Kai restaurant in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, thank you for watching."
