How to Make Candy Leis

Making candy leis can be done by laying out a long sheet of cellophane, laying out a row of candy, wrapping the row in the cellophane and tying ribbon between each piece of candy. Create an edible lei with a demonstration from a Hawaiian entertainment director in this free video on making a lei.

Aloha! My name is Nalani and we're here at the Mai Kai Restaurant in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. In this clip we're going to show you how to make a candy leis. There are many kinds of leis; there are feather leis and there are ribbon leis. But right now we're going to show you how to make a candy leis. A candy leis is really fun to make because it uses what everybody loves which is candy. Let us show you the supplies that we're going to need to make our candy leis. First you need curling ribbon, a scissors and clear cellophane wrap. So let's start to make our candy leis. First of all, we need to open our cellophane and you want to measure your cellophane to the length of the leis that you want to make. So I'm going pull the cellophane all the way across just like a string to my other shoulder and we're going to cut it off. After you cut the cellophane off the roll, you fold it in half and cut right down the middle and now you actually have enough supplies to do too, to lace. The next step is, you lay out your cellophane on a flat surface; you're going to get your candy and you can get any kind of candy that you like and you're going to lay the candy on the cellophane and leave a space in between and this space is where you're going to tie your ribbon. Okay. Fold your cellophane over and make sure it's tucked under all the candy so the candy doesn't fall out and you want to make like a tube. The next step is you're going to get your curling ribbon and you; if this is pre-cut but you cut it off to a decent piece; you're going to slide it under your tube of cellophane between each piece of candy; tie it in a ribbon or in a knot and you double knot it. Get your scissors and you make a little curl. Then you repeat the same process between each piece of candy until your leis is finished.
