"Hi I'm Dr. David Cathcart. I am a family practice physician at Heartland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph, Missouri, and I've been asked to talk to you today about thyroid disease. Thyroid that is under active tends to cause your skin to dry out. And consequently once your skin starts drying out it can itch, especially during the winter times. So it is important to not over use soap on areas of your like your stomach, and your arms, and your legs. Those are areas that don't get so dirty so quickly, so you don't want to use overuse soap. And you should always use a moisturizing cream. But the best way to keep you skin in good shape when you've got a low functioning thyroid is to make sure you are taking your thyroid medicine regularly, and follow with your doctor regularly. So you can check your levels, and make sure your thyroid is just the right level. This is Dr. Cathcart, and thanks for letting me talk to you about thyroid disorders."
