"Hi my name is Andy Wood, I'm education director for Audubon North Carolina, and I'm here to talk about what is a bluebird trail. Bluebirds are very popular birds in peoples yards, and around our towns, and out in farm land as well. One of the most popular things to do for birdwatchers is build bluebird boxes, and put them in and around their yards. Or if you are a farmer have them around your farm. And one of the practices that a lot of people engage in, including bird clubs is establishing bluebird trails. Which is basically a series of bluebird boxes established on golf courses, along a roadside. It is basically taking five bluebird boxes, and spreading them out in a given area. At least five, you can have many more than that. A couple of important things to do with bluebird trails though is to make sure that the boxes are not too close together, because bluebirds are very territorial. Some people put bluebird boxes together like five to twenty feet apart so that in case a tree swallow, or some other species wants one of the boxes the bluebird can get another take the other box. But basically a bluebird trail is just a series of bluebird boxes maintained by a bluebird club, or a birding club, or some individual on a golf course or subdivision. And that is what a bluebird trail is."
