"Hi I'm Dr. Mieke Lane, with Cascadia Women's clinic in Vancouver, Washington. I'm an OBGYN. Today I'm going to talk to you regarding how to figure out how pregnant you are. In order to decide where you are in your pregnancy you first need to know when your last menstrual period was or your LMP. You take your LMP date you subtract three months and then you add seven days. And that will give you your estimated due date. And from there you can figure out exactly how pregnant you are. At that particular point and time once you find out that you are pregnant usually through a home pregnancy test or you suspect because you missed your period, contact your health care provider and they can get you in and draw some blood work. And what they are checking for is your pregnancy hormone level and then they will also set you up with an ultrasound. An ultrasound is usually the best way to date a pregnancy and that will give you specific dates as to when you are actually due. Also the best time to do that ultrasound is when you are less then fourteen weeks and that gives us the most accurate timing for your estimated due date."
