"Hi, I'm Dr. Mieke Lane. I'm with Cascadia Women's Clinic in Vancouver, Washington. I'm an Ob-Gyn. Today I'm going to talk to you regarding twin pregnancy symptoms. The rate of natural twin pregnancy that occurs without the use of any medications is about one out of eighty pregnancies. With twin pregnancies, some women may notice that they're having increased nausea and vomiting. Other women also notice that their stomach or their abdomen is growing at a larger rate than what they would they expect for their actual due dates. If you go in and see your physician, they may order a pregnancy hormone test and that tells us how far along you are in the gestation and for twin pregnancies, that particular test actually can be much higher than what we expect for the actual dates that you are pregnant. So those are some other clues that we can tell that this maybe a twin pregnancy. And your health care provider will also order an ultrasound and that will definitely verify whether or not you're having twins. By virtue of being pregnant with twins, this may put you at a increase risk for hypertension, diabetes, pre-term labor or even pre-term delivery. If at any point you suspect that you're pregnant with twins, you need to contact your health care provider so that they can manage your pregnancy appropriately."
