"Hi, my name is Kelly Monson. I'm owner, part owner of Weapon Blender Airsoft Supply on 106 East 400 South in Orem, Utah; website weaponblender.com and I'm going to explain the basic mechanism of how an airsoft gun works. The most popular type of airsoft gun is called an automatic electric gun. Here's an example of an automatic electric riffle modeled after an M4 in real life and the way it works is, you have a gear box which it starts with this motor right here, it's electric powered that turns the series of gears inside the gear box right here; which in turn push the piston that's on a spring back and then releases the, the piston and it pushes a puff of air through the air nozzle right here. And the, the BB sits right in front of the air nozzle and that's how it, it pushes it through the barrel. So that's, that's how an automatic electric gun works. Here's a, an example of a gear box inside the gun. This particular one is, has got a split receiver so you just open out like a hinge and you can see the gear box sitting right inside it. So you have the air nozzle right here, this is where the BB's feed through, it's called the hop up chamber and the, the air nozzle slides the back. As the piston goes back and allows the BB, one BB to feed up and then as the piston is released inside the gear box, this also pushes forward and releases the puff of the air."
