"I'm Joe Dunlop. I'm a consultant and a professor at Steven Henegars College in the business area. Today, we want to talk about conducting a business meeting and the roles associated with that. Of course, the first major thing is make sure that the people who need to be in the meeting are notified of the meeting, that they know the place and the time that the meeting is going to be. Once there, the meeting should start on time. Not ten minutes late and not ten minutes early. You need to start on time. Make sure that you have a defined agenda. People will know what is going to be discussed ahead of time that they can become prepared to give their input and to make sure that the meeting moves forward. Try to stay on topic. It's very easy to relate a new story or something else that has happened recently. But if you stay on topic you can make sure that the meeting is going to move forward and that you're going to cover all the material that you need to have. The other important rule is make sure that the meeting stops on time. If you can control the start of the meeting and the end of the meeting and make sure that everything moves through the middle, you will have an excellent meeting. As soon as one of those three rules are violated, the meeting is going to drag and people are not going to being anxious to come to the next one."
