"I'm Joe Dunlop, I'm a consultant and I am also an instructor at Steven Henegars College in the business side, and today we are going to talk about how to motivate others. You can imagine what you feel like when you go into a crowd and somebody starts yelling at you, and telling you all of the things that you have done wrong. That kind of an attitude is not one that helps people move forward. You automatically raise your defenses, and you stop listening to the individual. If you want to motivate somebody find out the positive that they do, point those out, and then identify those points that you can say, "Look you have done this well, you have done this well." Those are the things that we will do to help you over come any errors that they make. The other thing you want to make sure of is that the person was aware of what their job and what their responsibility was. They may be acting on what they thought was the appropriate fashion, because they were not told that they needed to act any other way. So when you go into a situation where you are going to be talking to an employee to get them to cooperate with you look at the positive side. Ask them the questions of what they did understand what their responsibilities were, and then at that point you can go ahead and bring them around to the way you want them to act."
