"I'm Joe Dunlop. I'm a consultant and also a business adjunct professor at Steven Henegars College and today I've been asked to discuss, how does safety training save money? And of course, one of the biggest hazards in any type of an operation is the safety of the employees. One of the largest expenses that an employer has training employees. You can imagine what would happen in a work site especially in constructions or some place that has hazardous materials. If employees are not well-trained you would have a lot more absenteeism, you would have a lot more work accidents and all of those would result in an increase cost of the company. With an increase cost, that would include the lack of training would be additional employees that have to be brought in on a part-time basis and you would have a loss in efficiency and the efficiency is one of the things that will save a company over the long run. Therefore, if you have employees that are well-trained in the safety and the environment that they're going to be working, that way that they are not straining themselves and taking days off, you'd have more productivity employees and also have a better productive work force. As a result, you're going to save money because the employees are going to be more efficient in what they do. Safety will save a lot of downtime and that's why safety training is very important for employees."
