"I'm Jeremiah Fox, I'm a carpenter and handyman out here in New York City. Advantages of a house alarm. When you're doing a home repair remodeling you're going to be adding more square footage to your house. You're going to be adding doors, you're going to be adding windows, you're going to be adding space so for this it would be handy to have a home alarm system to protect you from thieves and let you know what's going on. There are many kind of sensors out there, there's simple ones that you can install yourself, there are alarm companies. The primary function is to let you know when something, a door or window to your house has been opened and you didn't want it to happen. It's good when you have children to let you know if they're trying to get out and do what they're not supposed to do. It's good for monitoring pets. If you have valuables in your house, it's primarily for theft. The simpler sensors just attach to the tops and bottoms of your doors and they just make a loud squealing racket when they're tripped. There are fancier systems you can buy that will tie into your home computer or an offsite agency and give them the alarm so that they can send someone to investigate or a security person can come in. The main point of a house alarm is the knowledge that you, your children, your family and your belongings are all safe."
