"Ever dreamed of owning your own business? Hi, I'm Monica Kosiorek with Unlock Your Potential. We're here today to talk just a little bit about what it takes and the importance of goal setting when you're wanting to do a new business startup. First of all, you need to be really really clear. Is this really what you want to do? Do you have the time commitment to put into it? And certainly, do you have the motivation? So getting clear is important. After that, you need to asses what are your skills and abilities. Do you need to take any courses to get you in line with all the things that you're going to need to do as a business owner. But then you start setting goals like what exactly is the business you want to be in. And why is it important to you? There's so many books and research out there. Do that first of all. That's your number one goal is to research and get all the data that you can so that you'll be able to make a good decision. You've got libraries. You've got book stores and certainly you have the Internet itself that can give you anything and everything you need to know. Next, you want to find out about a business plan, very important as part of your goals, writing a business plan. And that will include everything from what will your organizational structure be? What kind of taxes or licenses do you need to have to go into this business? How will you select your business name? How will you register it. Is registration important. So I think there's a lot of things that you need to do. But getting a solid business plan is very very important. And last again, do you have the time to do it? And do you have a support group. You can join chambers of commerces. You can join like-minded entrepreneurs of similar businesses. But it's important to have a support group so that you can bounce ideas off of them, and you don't feel like you're sitting out there alone trying to come up with the next best mouse trap.
