"Hello, I am Dr. Vimai Patel. I am a radiologist who works at Gateway Radiology in Pinellas Park, Florida. Today, we are going to talk about the importance of radiology. As a radiologist, I can tell you that radiology as a medicine specialty is extremely important in diagnosing and caring of patient illnesses. When you are seen by your physician who orders a imaging modality to be performed in radiology it usually means that he is looking for something that you have just gone to see the doctor about. Well, based on his physical exam, and also the imaging that will be performed will allow us to come up with a diagnosis that can be treated promptly and accurately. Radiology has become extremely import in that utilization of radiology, from the emergency room setting to the inpatient and outpatient setting has tremendously increased. What I mean by that is that the volume in radiology, as far as the number of imaging modalities that are utilized and procedures that are performed, have nearly quadrupled in the last four to five years. Everybody that goes to the emergency room or visits the hospital typically almost always gets something performed in the radiology for obtaining a diagnosis. And I believe the radiologist now has become an added tool for the patient to come up with the accurate diagnosis based on the training that the radiologist has as a physician. So, not only does the physical exam of the physician is important, but accurate in interpretation by the radiologist of your modalities performed in radiology is important, and I believe because of that radiology has become an important adjunct to patient care in medicine.
