"Hello, my name is Doctor Vimai Patel. I am a radiologist at Gateway Radiology in Pinellas Park, Florida. Today we're going to talk about what computed radiography is. Computed radiography is an imaging modality in radiology that now is utilized more and more often. If you ever had an X-ray taken in the past, you may have gone to an imaging center or in a hospital, where they took an X-ray where they used to put films inside a cassette and they told you to hold your breath, and then they would take an X-ray. Well, that is pretty much the same thing in computed radiography, but now those films are not being used anymore. So, in the days of, where the black and white films are hung, computed radiography allows the images to be seen directly on a computer monitor, such as the one behind me. The image is taken the same way. Computed radiography does involve ionizing radiation, where X-rays are generated to perform imaging of your body parts. Once that information is obtained, in the past it used to be on a film. Today, computer radiography allows usage of what is called an imaging plate to obtain that information. The imaging plate is similar to the films that were used in conventional radiography in that it has to be inserted, and then the X-rays are generated to take the image. Once that information is put on the imaging plate, the imaging plate is then put in a processor, where that data can be processed and generated into the image, which can be then transmitted to a work station, such as the one behind me. And that allows me to interpret the exam that was performed using computed radiography. I am Doctor Vimai Patel. I am a radiologist that works at Gateway Radiology in Pinellas Park, Florida. And I have just talked a little about what computed radiography is."
