"You know becoming a firefighter is a great way to serve the public and give back to the community. Hi I'm Captain Joe Bruni. Have you ever wondered what it takes to become a volunteer firefighter. There are many cities and towns across America that have volunteer fire departments that serve their community. First and foremost, check with your local department to see if they are in deed a volunteer fire department or career fully paid fire department. Volunteer fire departments is a great way to go get an understanding of what the work entails. Also keep in mind that your physical fitness and health must be at the upper most level to perform the work of being a firefighter, even a volunteer firefighter. Riding on the fire departments apparatus with volunteer firefighters is a great way to gain experience and knowledge as to what it takes to be a firefighter. You will have to fill out an application and in some volunteer departments take a physical to ensure that you are quite capable of doing the work as a volunteer firefighter. Also there will be a great deal of training involved. Many volunteer departments require a minimum of forty hours of training to serve on their volunteer department and also there is many departments that require continuing education to remain an active member in the volunteer fire department. Being a volunteer can be a great way to gain self satisfaction in knowing that you are giving back something to the community and in deed helping your fellow man. I'm Captain Joe Bruni stay safe."
