"English as a second language for adults is often taught in a similar way as you teach children. It's good to label things, it's good to have them draw pictures, it's good to have them use their experiences, whether it's with their home life or with their job, so that they can practice similar kinds of sentences over and over again. It is important to make sure that they understand that words have multiple meanings because in English we have multiple meaning words, whereas in other countries and other languages, the word is what it is, and that's that. But in English we have a vast variety of words that have more than one meaning, and unless they get to practice that, it's very difficult to know the differences. And often drawing or using an example or showing an item and talking about it and using the English in that way brings out some things that you might not know if you were just practicing something hypothetically."
