Video Transcript

"Film is a very exciting way to learn about things no matter what it is, but if you're trying to learn English, the films give you not only the pronunciation and all of the information while seeing a picture of actually what's happening, which I think is very helpful, but films are also powerful in the fact that they give you sounds and background and a lot of other unspoken parts of our English language, and I think that that's very important. One year I had a little girl who came to my class the first day of school from Holland and her mother said she spoke English, and the principal came and said she knew English, and when we got ready to go to PE, she was crying and said, 'I did not understand a thing you said," because she had learned her English from television. So sometimes film can get you confused because some of the things they have are not realistic."
