There are different carat weights; most notably 18 karat gold is the highest amount that most people carry in their home as opposed to ten karat gold which is a, although stronger; less valuable. Of course there is 24 karat gold; although rare; it's a deeper richer color and it's a, a normally more valued. But most people bench mark at the 18 karat category. If you have this type of gold you can package it up with a reseller and once they assay the true weight of the gold; they will compensate you in cash and this is a great way to sell scrap 18 karat gold for a dollars.
