There are hundreds, thousands of career assessments that are out there. The most important thing when you are looking at taking a career assessment is to find one that is validated and supported by research, not just some random test that somebody's made and they're going to put you in a career that has no validation behind it, so you want to pick something that's reputable. When you take a career assessment, you are answering questions about yourself so you need to make sure that you're honest, and that you're being truthful and admitting your own personal feelings about things. I always recommend that students take 'em when they are alone and there's not somebody standing over their shoulder, their mom's, their, their friends, their spouses, reading what they're answering. You wanna, you want some privacy, you want to have time to explore and explore yourself. Explore your own thoughts and feelings and answer the questions that are involved. Just being honest is the most important key to this. Now when you complete this, what it does, most of these career assessments match you up with a personality type and from that personality type, it says "people with this personality type are usually well suited for these particular careers". And it's not saying "if you have this other personality type, you can't do this particular career." It's just some suggestive guidelines for you to follow, so it's not a crystal ball saying that you have to do this, you can't do anything else. It's just some guidelines, some ideas, that get you thinkin' and get you goin' on the right track towards making a career decision. It is helpful once you have taken an assessment, especially if you do one on your own, that you meet with someone who is familiar with taking a career assessment, a counselor, whether it be a high school counselor, a college counselor, someone to help you go over your results and what they mean and how they will impact you and then for them to go over with you a career plan, a of an educational plan of how to reach this career goal, and then from there, it's your call as far as picking which plan, which educational plan best fits what you want to do.
