"Hi, my name is Charlotte Skiles. I'm a nutrition consultant and clinical herbalist with Eat in Peace Wellness Consulting, located in Austin, Texas. And today's topic is how to lose 70 pounds. That is a really good question -- how to lose 70 pounds, and really involves respecting the body. So what I mean by that is eating real food. Food that we evolved on, meaning food our ancestors had access to -- berries that you can get off a bush, apples you can get from a tree, broccoli you can get from the ground, animals that are out. Those are the things that our ancestors...we evolved on, basically. And when you eat those foods, the body knows what to do with them. It knows what to use for energy and what to store and what vitamins and minerals to get versus eating man-made foods and processed foods and refined foods that the body doesn't know what to do. So that's my first advice there for losing 70 pounds is to eat food that the body recognizes. One of the best tips for doing that when you go to the grocery store is to shop on the perimeter of the store and avoid the aisles. All the perishables are on the outside of the store. So that's a simple guideline there for eating whole foods. And also, of course, going to your local farmer's markets is a way to support the local economy and to get foods that are grown in your area. Also, movement. If you want to lose that much weight, you're going to have to exercise. The friendliest form of exercise for people and the thing that gives our bodies the most vitality is very simple, and it's walking. Walk every day. Our ancestors walked up to six miles a day on average. So make that commitment. That's basically at a fast pace 45-minute walk in the morning, 45-minute walk in the evening. And that, of course, just is fast. Maybe it's an hour in the morning and an hour at night. Break it up during the day and just do the best you can. And of course, stay hydrated. So drinking half your body weight in ounces of water per day. So for example, I weight about 140 pounds, so I drink 70 ounces of water a day. And that's something you'll hear me say often because it's such a key part of having a healthy body. People often confuse their thirst for their hunger and vice versa. People will eat when they're actually thirsty. So getting that body's wisdom in place, and you will probably lose weight. But more importantly than losing weight, you'll be healthy and that's always the goal. There's lots of unhealthy ways to lose weight. So this is about kind of taking steps forward and detaching yourself from results. So eat whole foods, move, exercise, do something that makes you feel good, and stay hydrated, and I would be pretty sure that you're going to start feeling really well and will lose those 70 pounds."
