"Hi, I'm Kelli. I'm an aesthetician and makeup artist at Ulta Salon and Cosmetics, and I'm going to talk to you today about what acne looks like. Basically, there's two types of acne. There's flat acne, which consists of your clogged pores or your blackheads. Blackheads; basically, what happens with a blackhead is when you have dirt and debris stuck within a pore and it becomes oxidized. That's why it turns black. It's not actually a raised bump on the skin. You can't actually feel it, but you can see it. It's a little black, little black dot usually on the skin, and those you can get rid of very easily just by using a scrub or a salicylic acid product. Bumpy acne is more of your papules and your pustules which are your raised acne. Your pustules are what you would more typically refer to as whiteheads, which actually have the pus in them, and what happens with that is basically, when you have dirt and debris stuck within a pore it becomes infected by the P acne bacteria and then it turns into a blemish. Another type of bumpy acne is your cystic acne, and that's acne usually that's under the skin. It doesn't necessarily turn into a pustule. And those; sometimes you need to see a dermatologist, and get on a very aggressive acne regimen. So, those are the different types of acne."
