How to Measure Pants For Hemming

"Hi, I'm Debrah DeMirza, and I'm at Deluxe, a resale clothing boutique, in Eugene, Oregon, and today, I'm going to tell you how to measure pants for hemming, so it really depends on how wide the leg is, at the bottom, because if you're wearing skinny jeans, or skinny pants, obviously, this won't be able to sit over the top of your foot, very far down, so you're pretty much going to have it, a shorter pant leg, than if you have a medium width at the hem,or a big belled width at the bottom, so what you want to do, is have the person put the pants on, and what I do, is I make the front a little shorter than the back, because I don't really think that it looks very nice, to have much of a break over the front of the foot. That's the bunching up that goes on, over the front of the foot, so if you have the front go up a little further than the back, you can have the back cover your shoe more in the back, and the front have less of a break, for a smoother look. Now, if you have skinny jeans, obviously it would be, pretty much above the foot, or if you want it to bunch on the bottom part of the leg, you can make it a little longer, but it will still sit above the ankle. Now, if you have medium size width, you just put your preference, of how far you want it to go in the back, and then pin it. Turn it up and pin it, and then the front, and if you have it too long in the back, it's going to end up rubbing on the ground, and then you end up having a very rough, jagged edge eventually, where it's worn through on the very fold line, so I usually make it a little bit above the shoe, and what you want to do, is put on the proper height shoe, that you will be wearing, when you do this, and then in the front again, you just put it a little bit shorter, so that it has a cleaner line. If you have big bells, you can make the pant leg longer, because it has more space to expand over the top of your foot, so you can actually have the front longer, and not have the problem of the break, so that's how you measure pants for hemming."
