"My name is Dr. Paul Kamitsuka. I'm the hospital Epidemiologist at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, North Carolina. The question is how to diagnose swine flu symptoms. It turns out that swine flu, in terms of how it presents, is very similar to seasonal influenza or the flu. So, the cardinal symptoms are fever; generally, temperatures of one hundred degrees Fahrenheit or greater, cough, muscle aches, headache, and some patients may also have stuffy nose or other symptoms such as GI symptoms, although those tend to be less common, especially in adults. So once again, it's the combination of symptoms; fever, aches, headache and cough as the most important ones, with other symptoms like sore throat or GI symptoms being, typically, less common."
